Agrian label lookup will allow you to locate label information such as active ingredient, REI, and EPA number and important safety information included on the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) such as Worker Protection Standards (WPS).
Preventing and Treating Green Tobacco Sickness
OSHA and NIOSH have published recommended practices to help tobacco workers and employers avoid Green Tobacco Sickness (GTS) and complications with heat illness as people with GTS also may be more susceptible to heat illness.
NCDOL Occupational Safety and Health Division's Agricultural Safety and Health Bureau has produced a video on how to prevent and treat green tobacco sickness. The video, published in April 2013, is available in Spanish here.
Both of these resources will help growers and workers understand how to reduce the exposure to nicotine and avoid GTS by providing recommendations such as:
- Providing appropriate personal protective equipment.
- Training workers on the proper use of adequate PPE.
- Making sure workers can recognize GTS signs and symptoms, such as nausea and vomiting.
- Training supervisors to recognize GTS symptoms in employees and to ensure sick employees drink water, rest in shade and receive medical attention if necessary.
